Union of Congolese for Progress (UCP) and the Union for the Congolese Nation (UNC) have announced their membership of a new electoral grouping for the elections scheduled for December 2023 in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
These political parties, along with others, decided to form a political alliance to increase their chances of winning a majority of seats in the elections. The President of the North Kivu Provincial Assembly, Robert Habishuti Seninga, announced their decision to the press in Goma.
The political parties mentioned all agree on the importance of unity and the need to share the same values in order to face the elections with serenity. However, Habishuti Seninga highlighted the security challenges facing the country. Indeed, the province of North Kivu is one of the most affected by the actions of armed groups such as the M23 and ADF which make life difficult for local populations, cause the displacement of millions of people and complicate the holding of elections. in this area.
The main objective of this alliance is therefore to restore peace and security in the region in order, through this, to allow the population to exercise their right to vote and to offer all the necessary security to the candidates to present themselves freely in the elections. .
Overall, this new political alliance is an interesting development ahead of the 2023 general elections in the DRC. The results of the elections will be decisive for the future of the country and the consolidation of democracy in Central Africa
