The massacres continue unabated in the Beni region in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The latest killed fifteen people in the village of Bukokoma, provoking reactions of indignation from local politicians and civil society.
For the Honorable Celse Magezi, provincial deputy of the city, it is unacceptable that the enemies of the people can operate with impunity, alongside the security forces supposed to prevent them from doing harm. In particular, he denounces the culpable negligence of the military and their busyness.
With nine victims already in Museya, a dozen in Kalivuli in the Bashu chiefdom and in Kyangeni, these recent killings have deeply upset the local population.
The Honorable Celse Magezi evokes an unforgivable imprudence which allowed the thugs to massacre part of the population without being worried, while the “SUJA” operations are in progress. It proposes an investigation to understand how this population was massacred and why the security forces responsible for protecting them abandoned their posts.
He also calls for the immediate transfer of all responsible soldiers and their replacement by others to guarantee the safety of the population around Beni.
The provincial deputy also proposes a round table between the security forces and the population to cement civil-military relations.
Through these recent repeated violence, it is the issue of security that continues to make the news in the Democratic Republic of Congo where civilians are the first victims.
