Vodacom Congo strengthens business ethics and transparency in the DRC

On June 6, 2023, the Business Climate Unit (CCA) of the Presidency of the Republic of the DRC presented the report of the first survey of the National Business Climate Barometer (BNCA) during a ceremony at the Cité de l ‘WOW. This initiative was supported by Vodacom Congo, platinum partner of the event to promote investment in the country.

Vodacom Congo, a subsidiary of the Vodafone group, has been a major telecommunications player in the DRC for over twenty years. With nearly 2 billion dollars invested, the company provides digital solutions to more than 21 million subscribers spread over the entire Congolese territory and is the second largest contributor to the state budget. Its managing director, Khalil-Al-Americani, led the Vodacom Congo delegation to the meeting.

The economic operators and senior state officials present discussed the challenges and possible solutions to improve economic governance and prevent corruption, fraud and anti-values. During this ceremony, the Deputy General Manager of Vodacom Congo and President of the Telecommunications and New Technologies Commission of the Federation of Congo Enterprises (FEC), Mrs. Pamela ILUNGA, participated in the discussions and contributed to the development of the roadmap proposed following the presentation of the results of the BNCA.

Ms. Pamela ILUNGA pleaded for the reduction of tax pressure and the independence of the legal and judicial framework to strengthen investor confidence and promote business expansion. She also suggested the establishment of permanent dialogue channels between economic operators and the government to find concrete and measurable solutions within a reasonable time.

By supporting this initiative, Vodacom Congo demonstrates its commitment to more transparent and ethical economic governance in the DRC.
