Article: The extraordinary congress of the UDPS endorses the candidacy of Félix Tshisekedi for the presidential election
The Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS) is preparing to endorse the candidacy of Félix Tshisekedi in the next presidential election of the Democratic Republic of Congo. An extraordinary congress is planned to formalize this political decision.
The Secretary General of the UDPS, Augustin Kabuya Tshilumba, announced that he will communicate the date of this congress during a meeting with the members of the party as well as the candidates selected for the national deputation. In this communication, he will highlight the importance of supporting the candidacy of Felix Tshisekedi for the presidency of the country.
This decision comes after the exclusion of some party members who organized a pseudo-congress in July with the aim of replacing the party president. The UDPS, true to its principles, does not allow the candidacy and leadership of the Tshisekedi family to be the subject of internal debates.
This extraordinary congress will therefore be an opportunity for the UDPS to strengthen unity and cohesion around the candidacy of Felix Tshisekedi. The party is counting on the support of its structures and its activists to carry out this electoral campaign and hopes to obtain a victory in the presidential election on 20th December next.
Félix Tshisekedi, son of iconic Congolese opposition leader Étienne Tshisekedi, took over from his father as head of the UDPS after his death in 2017. Since then, he has established himself as an influential political leader and aspires to lead the country to bring about meaningful change in the lives of Congolese.
