“Mzee Laurent Désiré Kabila Foundation in the DRC: Repeated attacks with complete impunity”

The Mzee Laurent Désiré Kabila Foundation in the Democratic Republic of Congo has been the victim of recurrent attacks in its offices. According to the Foundation’s press release, the attackers are individuals suspected of being security agents and an unidentified military commando. The President of the Foundation, Jaynet Kabila, declared that the facts were brought to the attention of the authorities of the Republic eleven months ago, but that no investigation has been initiated to find the criminals, despite the seriousness of these repeated attacks.

These abuses intentionally violate articles 12, 16, 29, 31, 34 and 37 of the constitution of the Democratic Republic of Congo, which enshrines in particular the protection of guaranteed rights, the inviolability of homes. The LDK Foundation condemns these barbaric, criminal and despicable acts which profane the memory of the Worthy Son of the Country, who devoted his youth and all his life in the long fight from 1961 to 1997 against the dictatorial system to put the Democratic Republic of Congo back on the rail of democracy and sovereignty through the Pardon Revolution, until the supreme sacrifice on January 16, 2001.

These attacks are a worrying example of a security crisis in the DRC, where violence and insecurity continue to increase. They also reflect a culture of impunity and lack of respect for the rule of law which makes the fight against crime and corruption difficult.
