The third national eucharistic congress was closed in Lubumbashi, capital of the province of Haut-Katanga, this Sunday, June 11. The Philippine cardinal and proprefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, Luis Antonio Tagle, special envoy of Pope Francis, celebrated the closing mass at the TP Mazembe stadium in front of thousands of faithful.
During this closing Mass, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Lubumbashi, Monsignor Fulgence Muteba, denounced the insolent way of life of the political oligarchy which monopolizes the dividends from the natural resources of the DRC, as well as the growing misery in which population. This injustice and this misery do not drive the Congolese people to despair, but on the contrary gives them hope for a better future. It is also an invitation to cohesion and national unity.
The various delegations made up of priests and lay people from the 48 dioceses in the country took part in this national activity. This religious celebration was an opportunity for the faithful of Lubumbashi and its surroundings to attend an important religious event in communion and fervor.
The DRC is rich in natural resources, but these riches benefit little to the population. The speech of Bishop Fulgence Muteba reminds us all of the responsibility we have towards the most deprived and the importance of Christian values and national unity
