Jalasa Salana: The Ahmadiyya Muslim community in Congo advocates obedience to established authorities and the fight against extremism.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Congo held its annual conference, Jalasa Salana, in Kananga from June 9-10. This year’s theme, obedience, was chosen to recall the true values of Islam, often tarnished by the behavior of certain extremist groups.

Khalid Mahmoud Shahid, Jama’at Amir of the Ahmadiyya community in the DRC, stressed the importance of obedience to established authorities and community leaders, as well as the importance of doing good rather than evil. While Muslims are often stigmatized as terrorists, it is important to remember that true Muslims are people of good values.

The conference brought together about 2,000 Muslims from different corners of the Greater Kasai area. Apart from discussions on the main theme, some surrounding villages of Kananga will see their mosque inaugurated by Khalid Mahmoud Shahid.

This conference, open to all faiths, shows the commitment of the Ahmadiyya community in the DRC to discover the true face of Islam, based on obedience to the authorities, benevolence and the fight against extremism.
