“Invasion of the opposition headquarters in Kinshasa: the worrying political situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo”

The event which took place on Saturday June 10, 2023 aroused strong reactions within the population of Kinshasa. Elements of the Republican Guard have effectively invested the headquarters of the political party Alliance for Change (A. Ch) located in the town of Limete. According to the national secretary in charge of mobilization and propaganda of the party, Josué Mbumba, this invasion constitutes a flagrant violation of the private home since the headquarters of the Alliance for Change is a private building. The elements of the Republican Guard who stormed the balcony did not seek prior authorization to access the headquarters of the political party.

Kidnapping firearm

Worse still, Josué Mbumba warned of a plot to come and lay down firearms at the headquarters of his political party with the aim of arresting some of its leaders. The representative of the Alliance for Change thus accuses the power in place of being at the origin of this unacceptable maneuver. He does not fail to underline the excessive provocation committed by the Tshisekedi regime which constantly despises the opposition.

Repeated human rights violations

This attitude illustrates once again the deterioration of the political situation in the country. Indeed, human rights violations are regularly reported in towns like Tshikapa and Kimbau. The Ahmadiyya Muslim community has thus organized an annual conference to recall the true values of Islam in the Democratic Republic of Congo. As proof of the dynamism of Congolese civil society, an ambitious conservation program has been initiated to save endangered species.

The country’s economic situation is also of concern to the authorities. Measures for transparent management of public accounts were adopted during the revision of the 2022 finance law. The strategic partnership between the DRC and the EU for a responsible value chain for the economy of critical minerals was also formalized .

Faced with the deterioration of the security situation, the country is modernizing its population identification and census system in order to guarantee sustainable future development. DRC Mining Week 2023 also saw nine corporate sponsors come together to discuss the future of the mining sector in the country.

Violent clashes between police and protesters were also reported in Tshikapa. The inhabitants of this city were protesting against the rising cost of water.

In Garamba, we have witnessed the reintroduction of an endangered animal species thanks to a bold conservation programme. White rhinos have been successfully welcomed into the region’s wildlife sanctuary.

This expansion of the economic, social and cultural life of the country must be appreciated at its fair value, because it can help to lift the Congolese nation out of the poverty and misery that have plagued it for years.
