The territorial administrator of Pweto, Master Derby Lumbwe Kanganyoka, is the subject of an invitation from the president of the Provincial Assembly of Haut-Katanga. This invitation took place on June 8, 2023 so that he could explain himself to the Standing Committee on Security and Human Rights. Indeed, he is accused of insubordination and obstruction of the parliamentary mission in the locality of Kwanza, located 40 km from Pweto center. The clashes that took place between the population of this locality and the military have historically been caused by prohibited fishing, which the Administrator of the Territory of Pweto has prohibited.
These accusations are considered unfounded by the civil society of Pweto, which points the finger at a matter of local politics. It should be noted, however, that the parliamentary commission did in fact receive authorization from Master Derby Lumbwe Kanganyoka for their mission in the locality of Kwanza. Following this, the people of Pweto demanded the return of Master Derby Lumbwe Kanganyoka, designated as “the sentry of Pweto”.
The situation is currently calm in the locality of Lwanza. However, it is important to follow the case to know if the territorial administrator will have to answer for these accusations or if the civil society will win in this case.
