The political situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) seems to be increasingly tense, with the intrusion of elements of the Republican Guard into the headquarters of a political party. Indeed, on Saturday June 10, 2023, elements of this guard entered the headquarters of the Alliance for Change (A.Ch) located in the commune of Limete in Kinshasa, without prior authorization, to ensure the security of the head of the state.
The reaction of the opposition was quick to fuse, thus denouncing a flagrant violation of the private home and an excessive provocation on the part of the power of President Félix Tshisekedi. The national secretary in charge of mobilization and propaganda of the party of Jean-Marc Kabund-À-Kabund, expressed his indignation at this intrusion. Josué Mbumba also warned of a plot to bring firearms to the headquarters of his political party to arrest some of its leaders.
This situation will not fail to provoke strong reactions, in particular from the opposition, which castigates an escalation of political violence in the DRC. This situation is all the more worrying as the country has been subject to growing insecurity in recent times.
Indeed, a few days ago, the province of Kongo-Central was shaken by a persistent security crisis, requiring rapid intervention by the authorities. At the same time, armed men illegally occupied the residence of Moïse Katumbi, expressing fears of escalating political violence in the country.
However, the DRC does not remain inert and continues to work for the development of the country. It has just launched a new agricultural program in partnership with DEM and Bio-Agro Business, aimed at supporting small local producers and improving food production. Furthermore, the DRC has taken a crucial step towards the issuance of national identity cards, thus contributing to the security of citizens.
The DRC is also concerned about security in the Rwenzori sector, where ADF rebels continue to sow terror and cripple education. Such armed conflicts seriously harm the socio-economic development of the region.
Overall, the DRC faces very complex security challenges that have an impact on the country’s development. It is important that the authorities show responsibility and work for political stability for the prosperity of the Congolese nation.
