The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) faces many economic challenges. Improving the business climate is one such challenge. President Félix Tshisekedi welcomed the presentation of the results of the first survey of the National Business Climate Barometer (BNCA), which revealed that the business climate in the DRC was improving. However, President Tshisekedi urges the authorities to accelerate the implementation of the DRC’s Business Climate Emergency Plan to achieve the necessary reforms by the end of the year.
In his communication, President Tshisekedi also insisted on the need to set up a system for monitoring the recommendations resulting from exchanges between stakeholders during public and private dialogue. The BNCA made recommendations, in particular the need to reform taxation and incidental taxation, legal and judicial security, the political environment, the management of public contracts, the quality of the administration, and that of infrastructure.
The BNCA aims to be a tool for the overall assessment of the economic ecosystem in the DRC and an interface between the President of the Republic and economic operators. This survey covered 403 companies in 13 sectors of the national economy. It made it possible to present the opinions of business leaders on the evolution of the business climate, to highlight the factors that have most influenced the business environment and to formulate appropriate recommendations.
The DRC must continue to work on improving the business climate to create an environment conducive to investment, but also to encourage companies to invest in this promising country.
