“Pweto in DR Congo: political tension following accusations of insubordination against the administrator of the territory”

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, in the territory of Pweto, the administrator of the territory, Master Derby Lumbwe Kanganyoka, faces an invitation before the permanent commission of security and Human Rights, initiated by the president of the Provincial Assembly from Haut-Katanga to Lubumbashi. The reasons ? There is talk of insubordination and obstruction of the parliamentary mission in the locality of Kwanza, located 40 kilometers from Pweto-center. According to some sources, the population of Kwanza had an altercation with the military, and the administrator is singled out in the affair. A parliamentary commission had been authorized by the Administrator of the territory to do its work, but the testimonies suggest a conflicting operation.

The Civil Society of Pweto does not hear it that way and proclaims loud and clear that these accusations are baseless. According to her, everything would be linked to fishing, practiced illegally. This activity has become the workhorse of the administrator, explains the President of the Civil Society Jean Pierre Kapya.

It is in this context that the population and the Civil Society of Pweto demand the return of the Administrator Master Derby Lumbwe Kanganyoka. The same Administrator had carried out a mission to Lwanza, where the situation is now calmer than before.

The tension seems palpable in Pweto, and the socio-political climate there is electric. As a reminder, the precarious security situation that the country is going through has favored the emergence of so many armed groups. Unfortunately, the government is struggling to find a solution to these growing crises. Tensions are felt, as is the vulnerability of the population, which is regularly taken hostage.

For a country with enormous economic potential, these various outbreaks of violence are delaying its development. Mining is one of the country’s main resources, but the humanitarian and security crisis prevents any in-depth exploration of the soil. In addition, through the DRC Mining Week 2023 initiative, the country is seeking to modernize and promote the inclusion of women in the mining sector, but this will not be enough if insecurity persists.

In short, the situation of the administrator of Pweto is symptomatic of the tense climate which reigns in this part of the DR Congo, an area of lawlessness where the populations are continually exposed to multiple dangers.
