The DRC, the Minister of State for Infrastructure, Alexis Gisaro, wished to respond to the concerns of elected officials during the oral question with debate by elected officials, addressed by the Honorable Senator KAMBAYI CIMBUMBU DENIS relating to road infrastructure in the Greater Area Kasai.
The Minister reassured the Honorable Senators on the progress of work on the Kananga-Kalamba Mbuji road, a national project for which he signed a contract with TOHA INVESTMENT. If the first phase of the works is due to end only in 24 months, the preliminary works to open the axis to facilitate traffic will end in August 2023.
The Minister also mentioned the designation of BCECO as Delegated Contracting Authority, a choice agreed with the Ministry of Finance to simplify the procedures for disbursing funds.
With regard to AfDB financing, it covers on the one hand, the asphalting of the section of the RN1 Kabeya Kamuanga – Kananga and the construction of two bridges, and on the other hand, studies for the asphalting of the Kananga (Matamba) – Kalamba mbuji.
All signed contracts have dispute resolution clauses, obliging the parties to respect their commitments under penalty of applying sanctions.
This project is a major asset for the DRC, allowing better circulation between the two cities and the development of the local economy. The end of the works in August 2023 is an important commitment for the population of the Grand Kasaï region and the Minister has done everything possible to ensure that this is achievable.
In the DRC, the political situation is constantly evolving and the latest information concerns armed men who have illegally occupied the residence of Moïse Katumbi, fearing an escalation of political violence. Security in the region is a major concern for the government, which continues to work to improve the living conditions of the population.
There are also positive developments, including a new step taken towards the issuance of national identity cards and a new agricultural program launched in partnership with Dem and Bio-Agro business. The DRC Leopards are also preparing to face the Gabon Panthers for the Africa Cup of Nations.
In conclusion, the DRC is a country with significant challenges, but promising progress is underway. The Kananga-Kalamba Mbuji road works are an example of the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure for the population. However, the political situation is still fragile and security must remain a priority.
