Linafoot: towards an agreement for an innovative and fair format during the 2023-24 season

Linafoot: towards an agreement between FECOFA and the clubs for the 2023-24 format

The question of the format of Linafoot’s Ligue 1 finally seems to find a favorable outcome. At a meeting organized by the Ministry of Sports, members of the Fecofa Standardization Committee, chaired by Dieudonné Sambi, as well as club representatives, met to discuss the format of the championship. According to the information we have, the clubs prefer a consensus option with a three-zone format.

However, no decision was taken at this meeting. The three parties involved – the federation, the ministry and the clubs – agreed to meet a second time to find common ground and make a final decision.

Lambert Osango, president of the Standardization Committee, expressed the wish to find a simple and important format, which would allow the championship to be played in three zones. This proposal seems to be widely supported by the population and football players.

For its part, Fecofa, as the organizer of the national championship, considers it important that the format complies with FIFA requirements. The federation fears that any compromise favors only some of the players and will not be fair to all.

The situation is therefore in abeyance, while waiting for Fecofa to make a final decision. It is important that the choices made meet the requirements of CAF and make it possible to maintain an elite championship, while ensuring equity between the clubs.

The Linafoot calendar has already been published and the resumption date is set for August 23. It is therefore urgent to resolve this question of the format so that the teams can return to the field.

It remains to be hoped that this meeting will lead to an agreement between all the parties involved, thus making it possible to put an end to this quarrel over the format of Linafoot and to guarantee an attractive and competitive championship for the years to come
