On this Saturday, June 10, 2023, the new committee of the Haut-Katanga youth parliament will be installed in the June 30 building in Lubumbashi. This event brings together many young leaders from all over the DRC, including 5 honorable parliamentarians from the Pweto youth parliament. Despite the difficulties related to the dilapidated state of the national road N°5 which connects Pweto to Lubumbashi, these honorable parliamentarians crossed the Zambian territory to attend this ceremony which goes beyond the territorial borders by bringing together all the Congolese youth.
However, the state of this road does not cease to worry the local population, which has suffered for many years the economic and social consequences linked to this isolation. However, mining companies are operational in this territory of Pweto and pay significant taxes. Like the mining royalty attributed to the chiefdom, these taxes do not seem to be used or very little, as evidenced by the installation of only 2 to 4 small streetlights in the M’pweto chiefdom.
The provincial executive, for its part, is almost non-existent in the territory of Pweto, even if several ministers are elected from this region. For many observers, this again shows the flaws in the Congolese political system that can lead to political frustration among young people who aspire to other political representatives.
In short, the installation of the new youth parliament committee is a unique opportunity to unite Congolese forces around the concerns of young people and youth in general in order to work for their sustainable social and economic development. The demands made by this new generation are numerous and legitimate. Despite the difficulties, Congolese youth remain determined to fight for their rights and their place in Congolese society
