Independent candidate Hortense Kavuo Maliro announced her official candidacy for the highest office in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) when she arrived in Goma on June 8, 2023. She is campaigning for a more inclusive management of the country which must take into account the people with disabilities.

Ms. Kavuo Maliro, also founder of the Association for the Social Integration of the Physically Handicapped and promoter of We Are The World School, a school for children affected by the horrors of war in North Kivu, believes that the time has come for it to act and participate effectively in the management of the nation. It thus wishes that people with disabilities can be represented in decision-making positions.

This declaration of candidacy was noticed by some people living with disabilities who took the opportunity to also announce their candidacy at the various levels of the legislative to the provincial through the municipal and local. The aim is to promote a more inclusive management of the country, which must take into account the needs of this often marginal part of society.

Hortense Kavuo Maliro stressed that inclusive governance is important for the Congolese people. For her, an efficient participation of everyone is necessary to meet the challenges of security, poverty and frequent wars in the country. Faced with the other candidates already declared, she does not consider herself an easy opponent. In summary, the candidacy of Hortense Kavuo Maliro represents a turning point in the political history of the DRC. It defends a more inclusive management that takes into account people with disabilities. Its vision is to bring together all stakeholders to address the country’s major challenges. By promoting the participation of people with disabilities, the candidate intends to offer the DRC effective, responsible and inclusive management
