News in the DRC: Civil societies in Haut-Uele province denounce the daily precariousness of the population
In a letter addressed to the provincial governor, the civil societies of the Haut-Uele province denounced the soaring prices of everyday consumer goods, which they noted following investigations carried out in the field.
In this letter dated last June 3 and of which MCP obtained a copy, the civil companies questioned several factors, in particular the overtaxation of everyday consumer products at the Boh toll station by the services of the General Directorate of Revenue of the Haut-Uele, the Congolese Control Office (OCC) and the General Directorate of Customs and Excise (DGDA), the presence of several checkpoints and toll booths as well as the multiplicity of harassment.
To find a solution to this situation and strengthen social peace, civil societies are asking the provincial government to suspend all services not assigned to the Boh toll station and to remove unnecessary checkpoints which place an additional burden on the economic operators.
Although these measures are necessary, the synergy of civil societies of Haut-Uele warns the provincial authority that in the event of inaction, it will take charge of recovering its rights.
This is a situation that highlights the importance of the role of civil societies in protecting the rights and interests of the population. By denouncing abuses and unfair practices, they exert pressure on public authorities to guarantee fair and equitable living conditions for all.
