The agents and executives of the central services of the EPST demonstrated last Friday in front of the Intelligent building of the Government to claim the payment of their management bonus, according to an article published on the blog Fatshimétrie. This bonus, which had been decided during the Mbuela Lodge agreements, has still not been paid to the agents, even after seven months.
The delegate of the Transparency and Social Justice Federation EPST trade union, Marcel Lutumba, explained that the agents in question are part of the central administration of the EPST and include more than 3,900 agents from different departments. He specified that this includes in particular the general inspectors, the correctors of the State Examination and the collaborators of the minister and the general secretary of the EPST.
Marcel Lutumba deplores the fact that despite the Prime Minister’s instructions, the Ministers of Budget, Finance, EPST and ESU have not paid this bonus. He believes that the mechanization of this management bonus could help ease tensions within the EPST sector and promote a more serene return to school in September.
In this perspective, he also suggests an intervention by the President of the Republic in the file of free education, which is one of the major challenges of the education sector in the DRC.
These claims by EPST agents highlight the difficulties encountered in the education sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They underline the need for better management of human and financial resources to ensure the proper functioning of the education system and guarantee access to education for all children in the country
