The administrator of the territory of Pweto, Master Derby Lumbwe Kanganyoka, was summoned on Thursday, June 8, 2023 before the permanent commission for security and human rights of the Provincial Assembly of Haut-Katanga in Lubumbashi. The charges against him are insubordination and obstruction of the parliamentary mission of certain deputies in Kwanza, 40 km from Pweto center.
However, the civil society of Pweto denies all these accusations which it considers unfounded and which would be linked to politicians with militants and bases in this region, thus benefiting from a favor of the administrator with regard to the prohibited fishing . The local population and civil society therefore demand the return of Master Derby Lumbwe Kanganyoka.
However, the situation has calmed down since the arrival of the territory administrator on site. It remains to be seen whether the Standing Committee on Security and Human Rights will follow up on the accusations against him.
The current political context in the DRC is tense, with terrorist attacks, repression of peaceful demonstrations, budget management scandals and more recently, the attack on the Mzee Laurent Désiré Kabila foundation. The country must also face the challenge of modernizing its population with the signing of a memorandum of understanding for the issue of national identity cards and the presence of European election observers on mission in the country.
However, there are positive developments, with the reintroduction of 16 white rhinos in Garamba National Park, thanks to funding from Barrick Gold Corporation, and the collaboration with multinational mining companies to fight against illegal mining in the DRC. . The electoral process is also underway, despite security difficulties.
In sum, the current situation in the DRC is complex and requires special attention both nationally and internationally.
