“DRC: Improving the business climate, a crucial issue for economic development”

Improving the business climate in the DRC is a crucial issue for economic development and wealth creation. It is in this context that President Tshisekedi welcomed the results of the first survey of the National Business Climate Barometer (BNCA), which gave a satisfaction score of 37% for the economic environment.

The Head of State insisted on the need to accelerate the implementation of the Emergency Plan for the business climate in the DRC, which should cover all public services with a direct or indirect impact on the business climate. This plan is called upon to combine the political, technical and human dimensions in order to carry out the necessary reforms by the end of the year.

The BNCA report was hailed as a valuable tool enabling public officials to observe economic realities as experienced daily by economic operators. President Tshisekedi urged everyone to “play their part for a healthy and attractive business environment in favor of foreign partners”.

The BNCA made recommendations on several aspects, namely: taxation and incidental taxation, legal and judicial security, the political environment, the management of public contracts, the quality of the administration and that of infrastructure. These recommendations aim to reform the business environment in the DRC and to develop a roadmap for future reforms.

This investigation takes place in a difficult economic context in the DRC, marked by the presence of armed groups in the country which threaten the safety of economic operators. Despite this, the BNCA report is optimistic for the DRC’s economic future, thanks to the implementation of the recommended reforms.

In short, improving the business climate is a crucial objective for the economic development of the DRC. The BNCA provided a tool for assessing the national economic ecosystem and made recommendations for future reforms. President Tshisekedi called on the public authorities to take ownership of this report and to accelerate the implementation of the business climate emergency plan to carry out the necessary reforms this year.
