“The DGCDI is strengthening its social dialogue in the DRC with the establishment of its first trade union delegation”

The General Directorate of Industrial Development Corridors (DGCDI) has launched its first union delegation made up of six people. This event took place on Friday June 9, 2023 during a ceremony chaired by the Director General of the DGCDI. The setting up of this DGCDI trade union delegation is accompanied by a renewable three-year mandate. Trade unionists are invited to participate actively in the monitoring, supervision and training of activities within the company.

Judée Badibanga Kabongo, CEO of the DGCDI, is convinced that cordial relations between the union delegation and the employer party are essential to ensure the development of employees. As leaders, union stewards are responsible for raising awareness among colleagues about the work culture in order to ensure a job well done. They must also investigate worker complaints and defend the interests of company employees.

The president of the DGCDI intersyndicale, Cynthia Kubiha, aims to lead the DGCDI to the top by studying and defending the interests of agents, as well as by interacting with the employer through frank social dialogue. The objective is to guarantee the stability of the establishment and to contribute to the emergence of the DGCDI and the country.

In 2023, the DGCDI plans to materialize the strategic vision of development corridors by creating new interior corridors in the DRC and connecting them to existing cross-border corridors. The DGCDI also plans to revitalize cooperation with South Africa and to revisit the 214 projects of the Central Congo corridor to make it a reality. Finally, it intends to establish synergies with the various ministries and institutions to ensure its multisectoral vocation.

Created in March 2020, the DGCDI is a public administrative and technical establishment under the supervision of the Ministry of Industry. It has a legal personality and its mission is to develop industrial development corridors in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In short, the establishment of this trade union delegation within the DGCDI is a significant step forward in social dialogue in the DRC and bears witness to the company’s desire to strengthen employee participation in the life of the company. The DGCDI aims to contribute to the emergence of the country by promoting the development of industrial corridors and the participation of all stakeholders in the implementation of this vision.
