“Sectarian drama in Kenya: New gruesome revelations in Pastor Mackenzie’s case”

In Kenya, the detention of self-proclaimed pastor Paul Mackenzie continues to spark horror and outrage. Accused of inciting his followers to starve themselves to meet God, this cult leader faces new gruesome revelations. Since his arrest four months ago, bodies have continued to be discovered, with the toll now at 425 exhumed bodies.

The investigation into Pastor Mackenzie’s actions is still ongoing, and prosecutors are preparing an indictment, including for terrorism, among other charges. The precise details of the charges are not yet known, but the gravity of the facts suggests even more shocking revelations.

The fourth phase of exhumation of the bodies has recently begun, and the authorities fear that the toll will continue to increase. Autopsies carried out reveal that the majority of the victims died of starvation, but traces of strangulation and beatings were also detected. Forensic pathologists have even reported cases of sexual abuse and missing organs, suggesting the existence of possible trafficking.

Investigators are therefore continuing to collect evidence, and some survivors have been rescued and questioned. However, most of them are in a state of physical and psychological weakness, requiring a period of convalescence before their testimony. According to reports, Pastor Mackenzie himself presided over the funerals of hundreds of his followers who died of starvation, calling some of them “heroes”.

This case highlights sectarian aberrations and the dangers for the faithful who can be manipulated in the name of religion. It also raises questions about the measures to prevent and fight against such abuses, as well as about the legal provisions making it possible to repress such acts.

Pending the conclusion of the investigation and the holding of the trial, it is essential to remain vigilant in the face of such manipulations and to promote responsible religious discourse that respects human dignity
