Insecurity persists in the Rwenzori sector, located in Beni territory, North Kivu in the DRC. Despite the military operations carried out for more than 4 years, the ADF continue to terrorize the civilian population by multiplying attacks. The night before this Friday, at least 15 civilians were killed. Local civil society, supported by the local youth committee, warns the FARDC and invites them to step up their actions to fight against these terrorists.
The ADF massacred 12 people in Bukokoma village near Nzenga Kasusu. Among the victims, several women, men and children. Three other people died in Kalivula and Kyandengi. This series of attacks is said to be an attempt by the rebels to retaliate for the losses suffered during the last joint military operations carried out by the FARDC and UPDF elements in the Bashu chiefdom.
Insecurity also affects the region’s education sector. Several schools remained closed, leading to the paralysis of activities in this sector of public life. Meleki Mulala, coordinator of local civil society, invites the FARDC to focus their strategies on the fight against this deadly phenomenon.
The current situation calls for redoubled efforts to protect the civilian population and restore peace. The authorities must work together to put an end to this insecurity which is hampering the development of the region
