Linafoot: Towards a historic agreement on the new format of the 2023-2024 championship!

Linafoot: Towards an agreement between Fécofa and the clubs for the format of the 2023-2024 season

A crucial meeting was held recently between Fécofa (Congolese Federation of Football Association), the Ministry of Sports and representatives of Linafoot (National Football League) clubs to discuss the format of the championship for the upcoming season. Heated discussions have taken place, but there is now a glimmer of hope for a possible agreement.

According to the information gathered, the consensual format favored by the clubs would be a championship divided into three zones. This proposal aims to meet the expectations of supporters and the entire Congolese population, who aspire to a competitive and fair championship.

However, despite this unanimous will of the clubs, a compromise has not yet been found during the initial meeting. The three parties involved have agreed to meet again in order to continue discussions and hopefully reach a final decision.

The CONOR (Comité de Normalization de la Fecofa) wants to find a simple and relevant format for the championship. They understand the importance of meeting FIFA’s requirements, while taking into account the expectations of the various players in Congolese football.

The president of Fécofa, Dieudonné Sambi, reiterated the position of the federation by stressing the need for a format which does not only favor Ligue 1, but which benefits all the clubs. He also underlined the importance of an elite league with a sufficient number of teams to guarantee competitiveness and the interest of fans.

The pressure is now on Fécofa to make a decision that meets CAF (African Football Confederation) requirements while satisfying Congolese clubs and fans. Time is running out, as Linafoot has already published its schedule for the upcoming season with a resumption date set for August 23.

Awaiting the official announcement of the final format, Congolese football fans hope that the various parties will manage to overcome their differences and find common ground. Football is a sport that brings people together and it is essential that the Congolese championship reflects this unity and this passion.

In conclusion, discussions are continuing to determine the format of the Linafoot championship for the 2023-2024 season. The clubs and the federation are looking for a compromise that will meet the expectations of the supporters while respecting the requirements of FIFA and CAF
