DRC: Kabuya Augustin, secretary general of the UDPS/Tshisekedi political party, describes Moïse Katumbi as a “danger to the regime”

During a political morning held on June 7, 2023, Kabuya Augustin, secretary general of the UDPS/Tshisekedi political party, called Moïse Katumbi a “danger for the regime of President Tshisekedi”. The latter justified his accusation by affirming that the entourage of Moïse Katumbi holds speeches likely to break the national cohesion and the unity of the DRC.

Moreover, Kabuya Augustin accused Jean-Claude Katende, president of the African Association for the Defense of Human Rights (ASADHO), of shaming human rights defenders. According to Kabuya Augustin, Jean-Claude Katende is sold, who expresses himself to please his financiers.

The remarks deemed to incite tribal hatred made by two cadres of the party of Moïse Katumbi have recently been prosecuted. With this release, Kabuya Augustin adds to the controversy around Moïse Katumbi, targeted lately by several critics.

This declaration provoked reactions in the opposition and among civil society actors, who call for more restraint on the part of Kabuya Augustin
