The Democratic Republic of Congo saw the birth of a political platform last Thursday, June 8. Called “Alternative for a New Congo” (ACN), it revolves around citizen movements, political organizations, independent personalities and members of civil society, all committed to proposing an alternative political offer to the elections of December 2023.
During the press conference organized to present this political platform, Alternative Pour un Congo Nouveau declared that it was driven by “the desire to develop a common governance program that prioritizes the collective well-being of citizens over the interests personal and supporters. The members of the political platform thus wish to propose concrete and achievable solutions to solve the real problems that citizens are facing, thus making it possible to improve their living conditions.
At the origin of this initiative, members of civil society, citizens’ movements and political organizations claim to be aware that, despite all the wealth and potential of the country, collective well-being is still not guaranteed in the Republic Democratic Republic of the Congo, more than sixty years after gaining independence. They believe that the Congolese people are increasingly upset because of “the recklessness and cynicism of the current political class which have led the country to bankruptcy”.
The political platform Alternative Pour un Congo Nouveau therefore wishes to put an end to the system of governance which it describes as predatory. She wants to qualitatively renew the Congolese political class, favoring young people and women, in order to restore the dignity of citizens and distribute the country’s wealth more equitably.
In short, Alternative Pour un Congo Nouveau wants to be the 3rd political way in the Democratic Republic of Congo, offering a credible alternative to current policies and aiming to bring a new vision of governance to the next elections in December 2023.
