Presidents Joko Widodo of Indonesia and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil are expected in Kinshasa at the end of August to participate in a tripartite summit between the Democratic Republic of Congo, Brazil and Indonesia. This meeting aims to strengthen cooperation between the three countries in environmental matters and to promote the conservation of forest ecosystems essential to the health of the planet.
The three main forest basins of the world, namely the Amazon, the Congo basin and the Borneo-Mekong basin, alone represent 80% of the world’s tropical forests as well as two thirds of terrestrial biodiversity. These ecosystems play a crucial role in regulating the climate and preserving biodiversity. They also provide the livelihoods of at least a billion people.
The presence of Presidents Widodo and Lula at the Tripartite Summit testifies to the importance given by Indonesia and Brazil to the preservation of these ecosystems and to international cooperation in this area. These two countries are indeed facing similar challenges in terms of deforestation, natural resource management and the fight against climate change.
The Tripartite Summit will be an opportunity for leaders to discuss measures to be taken to strengthen the protection of tropical forests and promote sustainable development in their respective countries. This will include sharing best practices in forest management, strengthening mechanisms to combat illegal deforestation and promoting biodiversity conservation initiatives.
In addition to the conservation of forest ecosystems, the tripartite summit will also address other issues of common interest, such as economic and trade cooperation between the three countries. This involves identifying opportunities for public-private partnerships in sectors such as agriculture, renewable energy and technology. This enhanced economic cooperation could contribute to the economic development of the participating countries and create new investment and job opportunities.
In conclusion, the tripartite summit between the Democratic Republic of Congo, Brazil and Indonesia will strengthen cooperation in environmental matters and promote the conservation of forest ecosystems. This exchange of experiences and best practices will contribute to the preservation of global biodiversity and the fight against climate change. In addition, it will offer the opportunity to develop beneficial economic and commercial partnerships for the three participating countries
