The ADF strikes again in the DRC: Lumalisa under the fire of insecurity

Lumalisa, a locality located in the territory of Mambasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo was the target of a rebel attack perpetrated by the jihadists of the Allied Democratic forces (ADF) in the early morning hours of this Wednesday, June 7, 2023. testimonies collected from a victim mention the attacks carried out to burn down houses, loot property and kidnap civilians. The situation, although it has become calm again, is worrying and raises the question of security in this region.

Colonel Maxime Tshisimbi, administrator of the Mambasa territory, says that this attack left three houses burned and one person seriously injured. The interim territorial civil society coordinator condemned this tragedy by calling on the army to intensify night and day patrols to put an end to this insecurity.

The ADF, an armed organization considered to be terrorist, has been raging in the Mambasa region for several years, increasing attacks against civilian populations. This rebel incursion is further proof of the persistence of insecurity in this part of the DRC.

It is important to note that this attack is far from being an isolated case: regions like Beni regularly suffer attacks from militias and armed groups, plunging the local population into terror and insecurity. Efforts are needed to restore peace and stability in this region and to ensure the protection of civilian populations.

It is essential that the competent authorities make every effort to ensure the safety of local populations through the implementation of concrete measures to combat insecurity in these areas. This is a real challenge for the new authorities in place, who must demonstrate the political will to make security a priority.
