“Pweto: The chaotic journey of elected officials for the installation of the youth parliament committee”

The territory of Pweto in the province of Haut-Katanga in the DRC is represented by five honorable parliamentarians during the installation ceremony of the new youth parliament committee in Lubumbashi. The route to reach the city of Lubumbashi was complicated for these elected officials who had to cross Zambian territory due to the dilapidated state of National Road No. 5, a real obstacle for the economic and social development of the region. .

The governor of the province is accused of not acting to improve the situation despite the presence of two large mining companies that pay taxes and mining royalties in this region. Residents of Pweto also report that the mining royalty allocated to the chiefdom is almost useless.

Moreover, the provincial executive is almost non-existent in the territory of Pweto, and the actions of Governor Jacques Kyabula are invisible to his detractors, who accuse him of having simply transformed a football team into a political party.

However, several ministers of the provincial government are elected from Pweto, in particular those of communication, Arts, Health and Finance. The significant presence of this region within the government has not made it possible to improve the catastrophic situation of the road leading to Lubumbashi.

The installation ceremony of the new committee of the Haut-Katanga youth parliament is chaired by Modeste BETU, national president of the youth parliament, and the Honorable Hussein Ndala is also present. Several young leaders from the region as well as the provincial Minister of Youth also attended the event.

The Pweto-Lubumbashi road remains essential for the economy and the social life of the population of the province. Let’s hope that the new authorities will be able to act to improve the situation in this region.
