New clashes between the M23 and the Wazalendo patriots in the chiefdom of Bwito, in North Kivu, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Last Thursday, the villages of Kavumu, Kitwayovu, Shonyi and Lubwe-sude were attacked by the March 23 movement and several residents were killed, while others fled to places deemed safer. According to Isaac Kibira, Deputy Delegate of the Governor in the Bwito Chiefdom, the population now lacks everything, with M23 elements becoming more and more dangerous for civilians and local authorities. Indeed, several localities remain under the influence of the M23 rebellion, while civil society actors regularly warn of the reinforcement of M23 elements in men and ammunition in Rutshuru and Nyiragongo, with the aim of launching an assault on the city of Goma. This instability increases tension in the region, leading the authorities to call for an urgent and concerted intervention by all parties concerned to restore peace in the region.
