“Fight against corruption in CAR: The General Inspectorate of Finance reinforces its determination despite recent legal setbacks”

The fight against corruption and the embezzlement of public funds is one of the missions that the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF) takes very seriously in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Jules Alingete Key, Head of the IGF department, has just reaffirmed this determination. At a conference, he stressed that his service would not be defeated by anti-values and that upstream control remains the best measure to protect state finances.

This new intervention by Jules Alingete Key follows the acquittal of a former Minister of Health, Hygiene and Prevention, Eteni Longondo. The latter had been accused of embezzlement of funds allocated to the response to the coronavirus by a damning report from the General Inspectorate of Finance in August 2020. However, the Court of Cassation, competent court to judge in first and last resort of the facts imputed in particular to members of the government, had considered that the charges against him were not sufficient.

The decision of the Court of Cassation calls into question the effectiveness of this institution in the fight against corruption. However, for Alingete, the situation should not discourage their mission. On the contrary, it should strengthen their commitment to continue the fight against all anti-values.

The General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF) is therefore more determined than ever to put an end to corruption and the embezzlement of public funds in the CAR. Despite recent legal setbacks, their determination does not waver. The a priori control of public funds is a protective measure that will always be relevant for the IGF.

This announcement should alert all those who have been involved in illegal embezzlement of public funds. The investigations carried out by the IGF could well catch up with them one day or another. From now on, more than ever, all eyes will be on the actions of the General Inspectorate of Finance, within the framework of the fight against corruption in the Democratic Republic of Congo
