Signs of activity:
According to the latest bulletin from the Volcanological Observatory of Goma, activity in the crater of the Nyamulagira volcano has been observed by satellite, although relatively weakly. Regarding the Nyiragongo volcano, a weak gas plume was detected at its summit, visible from the city of Goma. These phenomena indicate a persistent activity, but in limited proportions.

The seismicity of volcanoes:
The seismo-volcanic activity of the last weeks has been concentrated along the great fracture linking the Nyamulagira and Nyiragongo volcanoes. This activity is particularly pronounced in the field of Nyamulagira, while for Nyiragongo, it remains in the norm. A magnitude 3.8 earthquake was also recorded in the Masisi area on August 5, highlighting the region’s persistent seismic activity.

Geochemical analysis:
Regarding geochemistry, measurements along the main fracture revealed a low concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) at Bugarura and Munigi. As for the sulfur dioxide (SO2) present in the gas plume of the Nyiragongo volcano, its volume was slightly higher than the previous week. These analyzes contribute to a better understanding of the internal dynamics of the volcano.

Geodesy and extensometric measurements:
Geodetic measurements showed temperature stability in all the sites studied. Regarding the extensometric measurements, a slight compression of the fractures was recorded during the study period. These data provide valuable information on land surface deformations and crustal movements associated with volcanism.

Despite relatively low activity, the Nyiragongo volcano remains under constant surveillance.
