“The Democratic Republic of Congo is committed to the construction of transmission lines and distribution networks to supply electricity to new regions”

The article that I am going to present to you today concerns an important news in the field of energy in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Minister of Hydraulic Resources and Electricity, Olivier Mwenze, announced the construction of transmission lines and distribution networks associated with the Kakobola hydropower plant, located in Kwilu province.

In his report on the progress of the project, Minister Mwenze underlined that the relaunch of this construction process was made possible thanks to concerted action between his ministry and that of Finance, on the instructions of President Tshisekedi.

To carry out this project, two companies, MEC and APSPL, were commissioned to carry out the work. However, due to certain operational constraints, the joint venture formed by these two companies requested a third amendment in order to extend the duration of the works. Initially scheduled for March 30, the end of the work is now scheduled for October 31.

Minister Mwenze also pointed out that some delays are related to internal issues within the consortium, while others are attributable to state institutions. To overcome these impediments, the Minister has requested instructions from the Council to facilitate the maintenance of the roads used for transporting project materials and equipment, as well as an expedited payment clearance and container processing.

The fulfillment of these requests will therefore make it possible to guarantee the end of the works within the time limits set, which will make it possible to supply electricity to the towns of Kikwit, Idiofa and Gungu, as well as the missions of Aten and Totshi, and the village of Mbatshamba. .

In concluding his report, Minister Mwenze assured that the government will make every effort to remove the constraints that are hampering the progress of the project and will thus make it possible to meet the electricity needs of these different localities.

This announcement of the construction of transmission lines and distribution networks associated with the Kakobola hydropower plant is excellent news for the Democratic Republic of Congo. It will not only improve access to electricity in this region, but also stimulate economic and social development. This is an important step in the government’s efforts to strengthen the energy sector and improve the quality of life of Congolese citizens.
