Insecurity continues to plague South Kivu province in the Democratic Republic of Congo. According to a report made public by the Synergy of Youth Associations for Civic and Electoral Education and the Promotion of Human Rights (SAJECEK), the month of July was marked by an alarming increase in armed violence.
During the month of July, 19 people lost their lives following attacks perpetrated by armed bandits. In addition, 17 people were abducted, more than double the number of the previous month. These figures bear witness to persistent insecurity and a population living in constant fear.
The report also highlights the resurgence of acts of mob justice, with 7 cases recorded in July. Attacks on homes also increased, with 28 houses targeted by armed bandits.
Despite this worrying increase in insecurity, it is worth noting a significant drop in vehicle robberies, with only one case recorded in July compared to 12 the previous month. However, this decrease is not enough to allay the fears and concerns of the inhabitants of the province of South Kivu.
SAJECEK calls on the authorities to act quickly and invest more resources to guarantee the safety of the population. It is essential that concrete steps be taken to restore well-being and stability in the region.
In response to these concerns, provincial government spokesman Typson Idumbo assured that efforts are being made to address insecurity. However, it is crucial that these efforts are strengthened and that durable solutions are put in place to ensure the safety of all residents of the province.
It is essential to emphasize that the current situation in the province of South Kivu is worrying and requires special attention from national and international authorities. Insecurity has a detrimental impact on the population, hampering its development, stability and well-being
