Violent clashes between DRC armed forces and jihadists in the Beni region

Violent clashes were reported on the evening of May 31, 2023, between the armed forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the jihadists of the armed group Democratic and Allied Forces (ADF), in the territory of Beni, in the Rwenzori sector. The soldiers took decisive action by managing to neutralize six enemy combatants, destroying one of their strongholds, and recovering weapons of war near the Nzelube River.

The spokesperson for the local army spoke about these recent clashes, assuring that the search operations of the FADRC continue to fully restore security in the DRC. He also encouraged the collaboration of local populations to provide information relating to the presence of the enemy on the ground.

It should be recalled that the Democratic and Allied Forces (ADF) are an armed group, originating from Uganda, and which, according to the Ugandan authorities, claims Islamist ideology. Since 2014, the ADF have launched several violent attacks in the DRC, leaving thousands dead and hundreds of thousands displaced, with unknown motives
