“The work of the Francophonie games is progressing rapidly in Kinshasa: everything is ready for the large-scale sporting event”

The preparatory work for the IX Games of La Francophonie, scheduled in Kinshasa from July 28 to August 06, 2023, is progressing rapidly. Zeina Mina, Director of the International Committee of the Francophone Games (CIJF), declared herself satisfied with the progress of the work during a field visit with the Congolese Minister of Infrastructure, Alexis Gisaro. The sites of the Martyrs and Tata Raphaël stadiums were inspected to assess the level of execution of the works, which is estimated at 80%.

Work is progressing rapidly since the last inspection, which took place on May 14. Alexis Gisaro, who was then worried about the delay in the work, reassured the Congolese citizens by guaranteeing that the games will indeed take place in Kinshasa.

In the twin gymnasium and the Martyrs stadium, the seats in the colors of the DRC flag have been installed, and the hardwood flooring cut into strips on a basement is being laid. On the adjoining ground of the Martyrs stadium, the bleachers are already in place and the natural grass is sprouting in good condition.

On the side of the Tâta Raphaël stadium, ten buildings have already been erected out of fifteen, where there will be restaurants, accreditation room and accommodation. The judo and freestyle wrestling room is ready, and interior work is continuing.

Canada’s withdrawal and the Covid-19 pandemic had already forced two postponements of the 9th Games of La Francophonie. Nevertheless, it seems that everything is now ready to host this major sporting event.

In short, the country has dreamed big, and the work is up to the requirements of the OIF. With the work progressing rapidly, it seems that the organizers are well on their way to being able to offer quality games.
