The 9th Francophone Games are about to begin in Kinshasa. Officials and athletes from member countries of the International Organization of La Francophonie arrived in the Congolese capital to participate in this international event. Organized from July 28 to August 6, 2023, these Games represent a unique opportunity to celebrate the cultural and sporting diversity of French-speaking countries.
During a press conference to launch the games, the organizers expressed their satisfaction with the infrastructure put in place to host this major event. Isidore Kwandja Ngembo, director of the National Committee of the Games of La Francophonie, underlined the importance of these games in stimulating future generations and providing sporting and cultural opportunities to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The director of the International Committee of the Francophonie Games, Zeina Mina, also welcomed the commitment of the Congolese authorities in the organization of this 9th edition. She expressed her gratitude to the ambassadors of OIF member countries for their support.
Caroline St Hilaire, administrator of the OIF, underlined the importance of this event in strengthening ties between French-speaking countries and providing an environment conducive to the celebration of the Francophonie.
The heads of delegation also expressed their gratitude to the Congolese authorities for the efforts made in building the necessary infrastructure. They also praised the warm welcome they received.
For the Congolese government, the organization of these Francophonie Games marks the return of the DRC to the concert of nations. The Minister of Communication and Media, Patrick Muyaya Katembwe, expressed his joy and satisfaction for the realization of this long-awaited event.
