“Return of the displaced to Ituri: Peace is taking hold and hope is reborn for the region”

The return of displaced people in the province of Ituri in the DRC

The troubled province of Ituri in the Democratic Republic of Congo has seen a massive return of displaced people to their villages in recent days. More than 1,000 people have already returned to their homes on the Komanda-Luna axis, thanks to the initiative of the Congolese army, which provided them with a vehicle to facilitate their return.

This voluntary return operation was made possible thanks to the peace imposed by the military administration of the region, under the command of Lieutenant-General Luboya N’kashama. The displaced, who were initially forced to leave their villages due to unrest and attacks by rebel groups, express their relief and joy at finally being able to return home.

The military administrator of Irumu kicked off this first phase of return during a symbolic ceremony held at the Epo stadium in the town of Bunia. Displaced persons from the Bunia – Komanda, Tchabi – Bwanasura, Ndimo, Ofayi and Zunguluka axes were thus able to return to their villages and their lands.

The military administration of Ituri is also appealing to the other displaced people still present in the reception sites, encouraging them to return to their villages of origin. General Luboya N’kashama, Military Governor of Ituri, assures that all measures have been taken to ensure security and stability in localities previously tormented by rebel groups.

The advent of the state of siege in Ituri has already allowed the return of thousands of civilians to their respective villages, notably to Mahagi, Irumu and Djugu. This new phase of the return of displaced persons therefore marks a significant step towards the stabilization of the region and the establishment of lasting peace.

This initiative for the voluntary return of displaced persons demonstrates the commitment of the Congolese authorities and the army to restore security in the areas affected by the conflicts. It also offers displaced people the opportunity to rebuild their lives, regain their land and contribute to the development of their communities.

This return of the displaced to the province of Ituri is an important step towards building a better future for all the inhabitants of the region. Let’s hope that this dynamic of voluntary return will continue and that peace and stability will soon be a lasting reality throughout the province of Ituri
