“President Tshisekedi’s Historic State Visit to China: Promising Economic Deals and Challenges for DR Congo”

The historic State visit of the President of the Republic, Félix Tshisekedi to China gave rise to numerous agreements between the sectoral ministers of the two countries. The global and strategic partnership thus strengthened testifies to the interest shown by China in the initiatives relating to Congolese strategic minerals. However, the revival of bilateral cooperation cannot be reduced to the simple signing of legal instruments of cooperation. Thus, the Congolese must also take initiatives to stimulate the private sector, an essential engine for the revival of the Congolese economy. This relaunch also takes place in a context of disputes, linked to a few investments that were dealt with prior to the visit.

Apart from this news, other significant information has echoed on the Fatshimetry blog lately. We mention the fight against floods in South Kivu, the drivers’ strike in Kinshasa, the application of the law on subcontracting by BRALIMA, economic growth by the Chrisnovic Project, the budgeting of public investments or even the potential invalidation of the mandate of the elected Daniel Safu for tribal remarks.

To pursue its economic development, the Democratic Republic of Congo needs the cooperation of its international partners, but must also turn to the mobilization of its resources, in particular the establishment of a strong and dynamic private sector.
