USM Alger won the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Cup for the first time in its history, in a match against Young Africans of Tanzania on Saturday (June 3rd). Despite their defeat (0-1), the Algerian team was content with the result drawn in the first leg (1-2, in Tanzania) to win the trophy thanks to the away goal.
The match was very close and was dominated by the Tanzanians in the first half, ending 1-0 in favor of Young Africans thanks to a penalty signed by the Congolese Leopard Djuma Shabani. The Algiers then offered better situations in the second period, but came up against a penalty missed by Belaïd.
USMA’s victory remains a historic event for the club, which won its first African Cup against formidable opponents. This victory adds to a series of victories for Algerian clubs in recent years with, for example, the victories of ES Sétif in 2014 and Entente in 2019.
USM Alger’s feat also marks the strengthening of African football and the growing popularity of the African Football Confederation Cup. This success is also a pride for all the Algerians who vibrated during the meeting for this team
