USM Alger wins the 2017 African Confederation Cup
Last Saturday, June 3, USM Alger made history by winning the African Football Confederation (CAF) Cup for the first time since its creation. The Algerians won the title despite a defeat (0-1) against the Young Africans of Tanzania in the final return, played at the July 5, 1962 stadium in Algiers.
In the first leg, USM Alger inflicted a defeat (2-1) on their Tanzanian opponent, allowing them to reach the title in the final second leg thanks to the away goals rule.
In a heated atmosphere, the fans attended a hotly contested meeting between the two teams, where the first half was largely dominated by the Young Africans of Tanzania, who opened the scoring with a penalty from Djuma Shabani.
In the second half, the Algiers had more chances, but failed to score, especially with the penalty missed by Belaïd in the 59th minute.
At the end of a meeting rich in suspense, USM Alger was able to show resilience to afford a first African Cup, making the pride of all Algerians.
