The Deputy Minister of the Interior, Security and Customary Affairs, Jean-Claude Molipe, reported on the state of the administration of the national territory of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) during the last meeting of the Council of Ministers chaired by the Head of State, Félix Tshisekedi. During this week, several events marked the state of mind of the Congolese population, in particular the examination of the draft law on the distribution of seats by electoral district in the National Assembly.
The bill was declared admissible, but the elected officials expressed concerns about the mismatch observed between the number of registered voters and the number of seats allocated to each electoral district. The report also underlines the expectations of the Congolese regarding the fallout from President Félix Tshisekedi’s visit to China. Relations between the DRC and Rwanda were also discussed, with an agreement concluded between the High Commissioner for Refugees and the two countries for the repatriation of Rwandan refugees in the DRC and Congolese in Rwanda.
In terms of security, the Vice-Minister underlined the efforts to strengthen measures against banditry and urban crime in several provinces. The report also mentioned the damage caused by the torrential rain that hit Patambamba village, leaving 80 households homeless.
To have a clearer vision of the situation in the DRC, several articles are available on the blog, ranging from the brutality of mob justice in Beni, to the appeal of the Catholic Church to guarantee the security of the population, passing by the threat of a boycott of the elections by the ruling party in the absence of a consensual independent national electoral commission
