New partnership between the Democratic Republic of Congo and China: What you need to know!
Monday, June 5, 2023, the media relayed information on the state visit made by the President of the Republic Félix Antoine Tshisekedi to China. This historic meeting gave birth to a multitude of agreements concluded between the two countries as well as the signing of a global strategic partnership.
This partnership aims for the Democratic Republic of Congo and China to renew their cooperation and intensify their relationship in various sectors. The Congolese government minister, Patrick Muyaya, during the weekly government briefing stressed that this visit had been fruitful with the signing of several memoranda and agreements between the various ministers of the two countries, particularly in the fields of media, environment, digital, foreign affairs, etc.
This partnership is part of a win-win framework for both countries. Indeed, China, the first investor in the DRC, is interested in Congolese natural resources with a view to developing its economy and the stability of the entire region. Deputy Prime Minister Christophe Lutundula stressed that the DRC is not limited to its traditional partners. He also specified that for the economic development of the DRC, the Congolese must take certain initiatives in a dynamic private sector.
The Minister of Finance, Nicolas Kazadi, for his part, recalled the objective of the mission to China, which was to relaunch bilateral cooperation between Kinshasa and Beijing, but also to settle disputes related to investments. These disputes were dealt with before the departure of the delegation, he said.
Moreover, if the legal instruments of cooperation have been signed, the head of the Congolese diplomacy insisted on the need to have specific projects to submit to our partners. He also launched an appeal to the Congolese so that they also take initiatives, because we are in a liberal economy.
In sum, this global and strategic partnership is a promising initiative for both countries. It is therefore expected that the various commitments made during this State visit will only generate visible tangible results. Finally, with these initiatives, it is possible for the DRC to broaden its field of relations in order to boost its economy and the development of the entire region.
