Congolese tennis shines at the Billy Jean King Cup Tournament in Kigali, Rwanda.

The Billy Jean King Cup Tournament has opened in Kigali, Rwanda. Congolese tennis player Charlene Wantono won her match against Maisa Monyama of Lesotho in women’s singles, while the DRC national team won against that of Lesotho in women’s doubles.

The DRC team is made up of Nancy Onya, Marie Bosman, Charlène Wantono and Kati Bolangi, all members of the North Kivu Tennis League. They are housed in group B with Congo Brazzaville, Cameroon, Lesotho and Madagascar.

Group A includes host country Rwanda, Tanzania, Angola, Mozambique and Ethiopia.

In women’s doubles, the Women’s Leopards of the DRC will face the Lionesses of Teranga of Senegal the following Tuesday at 10:00 am Kigali time.

The performance of Wantono and the DRC team is an encouraging sign for Congolese tennis fans. Sport is often a catalyst for national unity and pride, providing an opportunity to shine on the international stage.
