“China and the DRC sign historic agreements for a comprehensive strategic partnership”

The overall Sino-Congolese strategic partnership was clarified by the Minister of Communication and Media, Government Spokesman, Patrick MUYAYA KATEMBWE, the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Christophe LUTUNDULA APALA Pen’APALA and the Minister of Finance, Nicolas Serge KAZADI KADIMA-NZUJI at a press conference this Monday, June 5, 2023.

The visit of the President of the Republic, Félix Tshisekedi to China has been described as historic. Several memoranda have been signed between the ministers of the two countries, testifying to the desire to relaunch cooperation. The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, insisted on two fundamental principles to be respected for the success of this partnership: concrete projects to be submitted to the partners as well as initiatives taken by the Congolese, in particular by the private sector.

The Minister of Finance, meanwhile, recalled the importance of this cooperation for the DRC, as the country’s leading investor. The signing of several agreements, particularly in the areas of digital technology, the environment and the media, marked this state visit.

The overall Sino-Congolese strategic partnership should therefore enable the development of the DRC’s natural resources with a view to win-win cooperation, with significant participation from the Congolese private sector to guarantee concrete projects.
