“The work for the IX Games of La Francophonie in Kinshasa is progressing rapidly: everything is ready for a large-scale competition”

Work for the 9th Games of La Francophonie is going well

The International Committee of the Francophonie Games (CIJF) expressed its satisfaction following the progress of the work for the preparation of the IX Francophonie Games, scheduled from July 28 to August 6, 2023. The director of the International Committee, Zeina Mina, accompanied by the Congolese Minister of Infrastructure, Alexis Gisaro, visited the stadium sites of Martyrs and Tata Raphaël, on Saturday June 3, 2023. She declared to be satisfied with the work, assuring that everything met standards and that the DRC was thinking big.

Unlike the last visit dated May 14, when the work was late, the construction companies were able to make significant progress and estimate the execution at 80%. Alexis Gisaro also reassured sports fans that the IX Francophonie games will indeed take place in Kinshasa.

The natural lawn of the adjoining ground of the Martyrs stadium is in good condition, the bleachers are already in place and the seats are in the colors of the DRC flag. At the Tâta Raphaël stadium site, ten buildings have already been erected out of fifteen, these will house restaurants, an accreditation room and accommodation. The judo hall, which is ready, is just undergoing finishing touches. The interior works of the May 20 stadium are also ahead.

Due to COVID-19 and Canada’s withdrawal, the IX Francophonie Games have been postponed twice. Work is therefore progressing gradually to prepare for this international competition.
