The Francophonie Games are coming to Kinshasa in 2023: an international celebration of culture and sport
Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, is preparing to host the 9th Games of La Francophonie, a sporting and cultural competition bringing together member countries of the International Organization of La Francophonie. Officials and athletes have already started flocking to the city to take part in this major event which will take place from July 28 to August 6, 2023.
During the press conference to launch the games, the organizers underlined the importance of this event for the Democratic Republic of Congo. Isidore Kwandja Ngembo, the Director of the National Committee of the Francophonie Games, highlighted the efforts made to guarantee infrastructures that comply with international standards and ensure the safety of all participants. He expressed the wish that these games serve as an example and stimulate future generations in the sporting and cultural field.
The Director of the International Committee of the Francophonie Games, Zeina Mina, thanked all those who contributed to the organization of this 9th edition and praised the Congolese authorities for the infrastructures put in place. For her part, the Administrator of the International Organization of La Francophonie, Caroline St Hilaire, welcomed the commitment of the Congolese authorities to provide an environment conducive to this major Francophone event.
The heads of the various delegations present expressed their gratitude to the Congolese authorities and underlined the warm welcome extended to them. They all praised the efforts made to build infrastructure that meets international standards in such a short time.
The Minister of Communication and Media, Patrick Muyaya Katembwe, stressed that these games confirm the return of the Democratic Republic of Congo to the concert of nations. He expressed his satisfaction for the materialization of this event and welcomed all the delegates of the Member States of the International Organization of La Francophonie.
The Games of La Francophonie are an opportunity to celebrate the cultural and sporting diversity of French-speaking countries. They also offer opportunities for the development of sport and culture in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
