The detention of Salomon Idi Kalonda, special and political adviser to Moise Katumbi in the Democratic Republic of Congo, continues to be talked about. Since May 30, he has been in detention in the premises of the military intelligence headquarters. Three grievances are held against him: the incitement of soldiers to commit acts contrary to duty and discipline, the illegal possession of weapons and munitions of war and the attack on the internal security of the State.
The military intelligence staff justifies the long detention of Salomon Idi Kalonda by invoking the endorsement of the public prosecutor’s office which authorizes his duration of detention with regard to “serious facts” in his charge. However, on the side of his political family and allied parties, this detention is considered a well-orchestrated cabal by the regime of Felix Tshisekedi.
Salomon Idi Kalonda was arrested at Ndjili airport on his way to Lubumbashi in the company of Moïse Katumbi, after having organized public demonstrations against the regime in place.
The political and social situation in the DRC is deteriorating. More than 500 political parties exist in the country, but few offer a real ideology and a political program. The legislative and provincial elections are fast approaching and a reliable and transparent electoral file is required to guarantee the credibility of these elections.
In addition, the security crisis in North Kivu is only getting worse, the M23 rebellion is strengthening its troops and threatening the city of Goma. Jean-Pierre Lacroix, UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, traveled to Lituri to discuss security and massive population displacements. The country is seeking stability in the face of the economic, social and political challenges facing it
