The security situation in North Kivu remains alarming, despite the ceasefire decreed against the background of regional agreements and the “critical” presence of the regional force of the EAC. The M23 rebels continue to destabilize the tranquility of the population in several main axes of Rutshuru territory, heavily supported by the Rwandan army. In its press release, the army vehemently denounced the behavior described as “warmonger” displayed by the Rwandan army and its M23 auxiliaries.
The FARDC are “on alert against M23 terrorists supported by the Rwandan army who, in their expansionist ambitions, continue their destabilization action in North Kivu”, according to the Deputy Minister of National Defence. The rebels were reinforced by recruits at the end of their training in Rwanda. The Rwandan army reinforced its troops coming from Rwanda through the Mwaru border post.
This redeployment aims to attack the city of Goma and accentuate the humanitarian crisis and insecurity. In an already unstable region, this situation is worrying for the inhabitants of North Kivu. The denunciation of these practices is necessary to enforce the Nairobi and Luanda agreements and avoid an escalation of violence
