The situation at the Kinshasa International Fair (FIKIN) has been buzzing lately. The general manager, Didier Kabampele Ngabul, confirmed that the FIKIN modernization work is progressing well, and that the Turkish company Milvet in charge of the installation is in the process of carrying out the project according to the required standards. The CEO also added that the objective of this rehabilitation is to modernize the Fair and prepare it for fairground editions that will please everyone in the years to come.
The changes planned are many, from exhibition centers, offices, a hotel, an amusement park and a shopping center. Work is progressing quickly and some sites have already been evacuated, while others have been destroyed to allow the project to be carried out. Created in 1969, the International Fair of Kinshasa (FIKIN) is considered a true symbol of the DRC, but it unfortunately experienced a difficult period after the lootings of 1991 and 1993, causing the loss of a large part of its heritage.
Apart from FIKIN, other interesting topics have been discussed on our blog dedicated to the DRC. We reported on the operation to fill in a ravine in Tshikapa in the DRC, testifying to the local government’s commitment to the safety of local populations. We also talked about the socio-political situation in the DRC, the security crisis in North Kivu, the visit of Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle to Goma, and much more.
